Conditional sentences

Conditional sentences werden auch ‚if clauses‘ oder auch ‚if sentences‘ genannt.

‚Conditional sentences‘ sind Bedingungssätze, weil sie eine Bedingung enthalten.

Damit ist gemeint, es sind ‚was ist wenn‘-Sätze.

Es gibt eine Bedingung (im if-Satz) und einen Hauptsatz.

Je nachdem wie wahrscheinlich ein Ereignis ist, verwendet man

Conditional Typ I Simple – ‚Was ist, wenn ….‘
Verwendung: Wenn es um eine Bedingung geht und die Bedingung noch erfüllbar / möglich ist.
Bildung:
- - if + Simple Present +
    - will + Infinitiv
    - can / might / .. + Infinitiv
    - imperativ

Beispiele:

If it is monday, I will work. I won’t work, if it is sunday. Will I work, if it is saturday?
If it is not too high, she can jump. If it is too high, she might not jump. If it is that high, will she jump?
If the shop is closed, go to another one.

If I am in Paris, I’ll write you a postcard. (Wenn ich in Paris bin, schreibe ich Ihnen eine Postkarte.)
If we take the bus, we won’t arrive in time. (Wenn wir den Bus nehmen, werden wir nicht rechtzeitig ankommen.)
Will you go to school on foot if the sun shines tomorrow? (Wirst du zu Fuß zur Schule gehen, wenn morgen die Sonne scheint?)
If I find more information about it, I will share it with you. (Wenn ich mehr Informationen darüber finde, werde ich sie Ihnen mitteilen.)
If I’m lucky, I’ll win the lottery next week. (Wenn ich Glück habe, werde ich nächste Woche im Lotto gewinnen.)

Conditional Typ II Simple – ‚Was wäre, wenn…‘.
Verwendung: Wenn es um eine Bedingung geht und die Bedingung noch erfüllbar / möglich, allerdings unwahrscheinlich ist.
Bildung:
- - if + Simple Past +
  - would, could, might + Infinitiv
Beispiel:
- - If it was monday,
  - I would work.
Beispiel:
- - If it wasn’t monday,
  - I wouldn’t work.
Beispiel:
- - Would I work,
  - if it was monday?
Beispiel:
- - If the wall was low,
  - she could jump.
Beispiel:
- - If the wall wasn’t low,
  - she couldn’t jump.
Beispiel:
- - Could she jump,
  - if the wall was low?

If I went to the party, I would wear the blue dress. (Wenn ich zu der Party gehen würde, würde ich das blaue Kleid tragen.)
If I went to the party, I couldn’t meet you. (Wenn ich auf die Party ginge, könnte ich dich nicht kennenlernen.)
If I brought enough money with me, would that be possible? (Wäre das möglich, wenn ich genug Geld mitbrächte?)
If it rained, we would not go outside. (Wenn es regnete, gingen wir nicht raus.)
If he ran, he might still catch the bus. (Wenn er rennen würde, könnte er den Bus noch erreichen.)

Conditional Typ III Simple – ‚Was wäre gewesen, wenn …‘.
Verwendung: Wenn es um eine Bedingung geht und die Bedingung nicht mehr erfüllbar / möglich ist.
Bildung:
- - if + past perfect (had + Past Participle (Verb mit ‚ed‘ – bei regelmäßigen Verben)) +
  - would have / could have / might have + Past Participle(Verb mit ‚ed‘ – bei regelmäßigen Verben)
Beispiel:
- - If it had been monday,
  - I would have worked.
Beispiel:
- - If it hadn’t been monday,
  - I wouldn’t have worked.
Beispiel:
- - If the wall had been lower,
  - she would have jumped

If I had been faster, I would have caught the bus. (Wenn ich schneller gewesen wäre, hätte ich den Bus noch erwischt.)
If Marie had been at home, she wouldn’t have missed Grandma’s visit. (Wäre Marie zu Hause gewesen, hätte sie den Besuch der Großmutter nicht verpasst.)
If you had won, would you have helped me? (Wenn du gewonnen hättest, hättest du mir dann geholfen?)
If I had gone there, I would have seen you. (Wenn ich dorthin gegangen wäre, hätte ich dich gesehen.)
If Simone had asked me about it, I could have told it here. (Wenn Simone mich danach gefragt hätte, hätte ich es hier erzählen können.)
